COURSE DESCRIPTION
The end goal or goals is for students and instructors to be successful learners, problem solvers, and decision makers. This curriculum + workshop is designed to combine Social Emotional Learning (SEL) approaches with Social Emotional Teaching (SET) while analyzing the importance that pedagogy + curriculum play in learning and retention -- and common absence of SEL + SET in traditional learning/teaching institutions. In addition, we will explore the fragility of metacognition, SEL, SET, and the pernicious strategies that we should avoid and or acknowledge and change where possible.. All modules are taught in a design thinking format + human centered learning and teaching approach.
COURSES OBJECTIVES + GOALS
An awareness of how to think about one's own thinking.
An awareness to solve problems, evaluate evidence, analyze arguments, generate hypotheses – developing the skills essential to mastering online material.
Appreciation for the many components of metacognition, and an ability to bring knowledge from themes + lessons learned in the present, to provide a big picture appreciation for why metacognition exists.
An “awareness of the processes” and the building of the bridge to “trusting the process”that can lead to maximizing our effectiveness as teachers, learners, leaders and decision-makers.
